Workers Directorate
Description:
I woke this morning when the animals began stirring. I was slow to prepare myself for the day, so I was late for the communal breakfast with the other farmers. The morning shift was tough, being late for breakfast always means getting the least. It was a relief to get to the midday meal. Despite the heat, I walked several farms down the road to eat with Liddy's family. The walk only left me an hour for lunch. Her parents gave me permission to come back for dinner once the afternoon shift is over. They will be spinning wool from their sheep, which I have never done. My father has been telling me I am too idle in the evening, and need to find a craft to occupy me until bed.
When the old regime was obliterated in the fires of nuclear war, the workers of the world were freed of their shackles. From the ruins of the Old World, a group of workers came together to form a new society based on egalitarianism, responsive to the needs of the workers who created the backbone of society.
The Directorate, as it is commonly referred, seeks to meet the needs of the people through the equitable distribution of supplies and labor. The collectivist labor system has allowed the Directorate to produce many skilled artisans and to supply them with the equipment needed to practice their crafts.
The Workers Directorate seeks to bring an age of peace and equitable prosperity to Karst. Before other factions began excavating preapocalypse items, the Directorate's craftsmen were considered the premier source for equipment. There are teachers, doctors, and other nonmanual laborers.
The Workers' Militia is made up of part time police and soldiers. The Directorate philosophy is simple: a good day's honest work will cure what ails you. For almost all citizens, this is simple and taken to heart. Everyone takes pride in their work and (theoretically) offers help to each other when in need. The truth is that people from the Directorate might be just as petty and selfish as members of any other faction.
